The Development Manager is the lead staff person responsible for the success of the Chapter’s signature Dream Gala event.  Working closely with the Executive Director and volunteer leadership and with support from the Regional and National teams, he/she will work year-round to  build and execute plans and budgets for sustainable growth in the areas of:  volunteer committee development and succession planning; honoree cultivation; auction procurement; corporate and individual sponsorship; audience development and stewardship; audience experience  and Fund A Cure.  Though implementing an outstanding event experience is critically important, the primary focus of this position is fund development with sustainable, year-over-year, seven figure outcomes.  The Development Manager will accomplish this with the assistance of Chapter staff, the Dream Guild, and the ongoing development of robust Gala committees, aligned with the vision of the Executive Director and the support of the Chapter Board.

This position is also the staff liaison to our Dream Guild, a membership group that promotes and fundraises for the Chapter.  Working closely with the Dream Guild Board of Directors, this person will help plan and implement Guild events, including the Spring Fling and Holiday Luncheon, as well as other, smaller events throughout the year, recruit new members and assist in the overall development and growth of the Dream Guild. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Supports and maintains the vision, mission, priorities and guiding principles of JDRF.

• Serves as the Dream Gala Chapter point person, providing year-round, campaign-minded strategic and tactical direction.

• Works with the ED, Volunteer Leadership Committees, and regional staff to formulate short and long term strategic and tactical plans for event growth and sustainability. 

• Works with the ED to build and manage Gala and Guild revenue and expense budgets, working within efficiency guidelines and expectations. 

• Works with the ED and regional staff to build and execute a 12 month Gala stewardship plan. 

• Understands and works with all Gala and Guild online tools as required by organizational guidelines. 

• Identifies and builds revenue oriented relationships within the community, corporate and individual/family categories. 

• Works closely with staff and volunteers to help build and strengthen the Gala pipeline.

• Identify, recruit, cultivate, train and steward volunteer Gala committee members including Gala Leadership volunteers.

• Works with ED and regional staff in developing and adhering to 12 month event timelines and benchmarks. 

• Participates in staff and volunteer meetings to represent Gala and Guild objectives. 

• Provide Gala leadership, guidance, training and development for Chapter staff and volunteers.

• Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures. 

• Communicate and set expectations clearly and appropriately.

• Supervises Gala staff as assigned. 

• Works with the Chapter Board to support all Gala efforts.

• Represents the best interests, professionalism and integrity of JDRF in all activities and relationships through a unified message of JDRF’s mission and a commitment to organizational standards and leadership by personal example.

• Additional duties as assigned

 

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.  

• Minimum three to five years of nonprofit Special Event/ Gala leadership experience, consistently generating revenue in the high six and preferably seven figure range. 

• Minimum three to five years of direct and/or matrix supervisory responsibility. 

• Minimum three to five years of volunteer committee recruitment, development/training, retention and stewardship experience. 

• Minimum three to five years in securing, developing and stewarding corporate, individual and community (family) support in the four, five and six figure range. 

• Experience in community outreach. 

• Solid understanding of building and managing budgets and profit and loss statements. 

• Proficient in Microsoft Office.

• Proficient in InDesign or other design software program.

• Effectively multitask, prioritize and work collaboratively in a fast paced environment. 

• Highly efficient in time management and meeting deadlines under pressure. 

• Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability for presentation delivery, clearly conveying ideas and instructing effectively. 

• Self-starter, strongly disciplined and very resourceful. 

• Travel locally as needed with occasional overnight travel for meetings.  Works evenings and weekends as needed without issue. 

• Exercises sound judgment on a consistent basis.
