Mentoring Program

Mentor/Mentee program overview: 

  • The program runs August through February, Applications accepted every Spring.
  • Mentees will be selected and matched by a committee of mentors
  • All mentees are required to: create a fundraising project for their agency, be an active member of at least one AFPOC chapter committee, and have the approval of their immediate supervisor for participation.

In order to be considered for enrollment as a Mentor, you must be a current AFPOC member in good standing, have a minimum of five years in the fundraising profession and a desire to help others improve their fund raising skills.  Mentees are required to be AFPOC members.

Basic Responsibilities for Mentors include:

  • Commit to attending an orientation meeting for Mentors in late-June where mentors will review applications from mentees, approve participants and match mentees with mentors. 
  • Commit to regular interaction, preferably in person, with your assigned mentee.
  • Commit to attending the bi-monthly group meetings (Jun, Aug, Oct and Dec) for all mentees and mentors.
  • Work with your mentee to select a fund raising service project, to review drafts of reports, and to approve the final report before presentation to their peers at the group meeting in December.
  • Commit to attending and participating in the “Graduation” program (at the February AFP OC chapter meeting).
  • Submit a letter of resignation to the program chair if unable to continue participation.
