Special Olympics Southern California (SOSC) is a nonprofit organization that empowers individuals.  Their mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

SOSC is compiled of 9 regional offices from San Luis Obispo to San Diego.  They are fiscally sound with a strong balance sheet.  A diverse and well recognized board of directors compliments a strong business and operational structure. 

Reporting to Assistant Vice President, Volunteers & Field Operations, SOSC is looking for a Director, Volunteer Engagement who will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive volunteer engagement throughout SOSC and oversee all volunteer functions of the organization, from identification of volunteer needs, fulfillment, to retention and recognition programs, including oversight of volunteer management software system.  With significant investment and development in the CRM, the Director, Volunteer Engagement is poised for success. This mission critical and visionary role will lead employees in volunteer engagement opportunities, ultimately serving more athletes and increasing the impact of SOSC. The position will be based out of their Long Beach office. 

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning - 15%

Individual Goals - 20% 

Volunteer Engagement; Training and Development - 40%

Outreach - 10% 

Technology - 10%

Supervisor Duties - 5% 

Education and/or Experience:

 Bachelor’s degree from accredited college/university in nonprofit management, organizational development or related field required. Master's degree in similar field or equivalent preferred.

10+ years’ experience in all aspects of volunteer engagement at organizations with wide range of volunteer types.
